The RBC, together with other health sector partners, joined the residents of Nyarugenge District in marking International Cervical Cancer Elimination Day, an occasion celebrated on November 17 every year.
The event further provided a platform to launch a new awareness campaign for the empowerment of women through regular screening for early treatment.
This initiative is in line with the National Cancer Control Plan goals 2025–2029 and further strengthens Rwanda’s Mission 2027 to position itself among the global leaders in eliminating cervical cancer, reaching the threshold set by the World Health Organization.
In his presentation, Dr. François Uwinkindi, the head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Division at RBC, said collective responsibility is needed toward achieving the set 2027 target.
“Cervical cancer can be eliminated if everyone plays their part. Girls need to get vaccinated against HPV, and women must be screened and treated at the right time. When we all act, we are safeguarding the health of Rwandan families.”He says
This campaign represents a significant step in strengthening national efforts to ensure every girl will get the HPV vaccine and that every woman gets screened at least once a year, keeping Rwanda on course to remain a continental and global model in the fight against this preventable. disease.
